We have continued our ongoing refurbishment plan this winter with the refurb of the resident’s bar area (Admiral Bar) and Reception hallway. A traditional wooden floor has been laid, new furniture and soft furnishings introduced, all providing a modern yet warm ambience. We have continued to improve the bedrooms, completely reshaping and refurbishing one room and redecorating others.
The quietness of Autumn and Winter has allowed us to attack the grounds and garden areas around the hotel. New wire fencing has been erected on the east boundary and the bank cleared on the road side of the car park with the dead trees removed. The shrub beds have been redesigned and new shrubs introduced. The improvements are not only welcoming but designed to last with minimum maintenance needed to maintain the standard.
This January we have redecorated the Reception Office and continued the refurbishment programme of bedrooms. Soft furnishings in many of the bedrooms have been renewed. Behind the scenes, the main kitchen has received a facelift with work surfaces replaced and ceilings painted. We have also up-graded the Wi-Fi system with speeds increased by the recent introduction to the area of optic fibre. However, our location does not give us speeds equivalent to those of town centres.
Recently, we have focussed on our Carbon Footprint, introducing controls on the oil fired water boilers to measure the water return temperature to reduce the necessity to heat further water of a correct temperature. Radiators have had reflective panels fitted to the wall behind and all loft spaces have been laid with insulation. All lighting throughout the hotel has been replaced with low energy bulbs.
